A Bit About A Daddy's Girl

"You can be anything you want to be, don't let anyone tell you otherwise." - Corporal Charlie Sneed Jr.

My father passed away when I was a toddler. Although he was not physically around to see what I would become in life I have held on to his words. After graduating from high school at age seventeen, my personal statement for college admission was centered around the belief that I could pursue anything. I started college like many, not realizing that you do not have to become a doctor or a lawyer once you finish. While matriculating through college, I realized that there were other things you could do with a college degree. Unlike completing trade school, you are not limited to focus on success in one industry when you have a college degree from an accredited university.

When considering what I wanted to do, I thought of my father often. After watching the air strikes that marked the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003, I enlisted in the Air Force Reserve. My father received an honorable discharge from the Army and I wanted to serve this country like him. In 2018, I started civilian service with the federal government. In 2021, I completed my masters degree and dedicated my dissertation to the memory of my father, Until this day, I have done any and everything I have wanted with him in mind.
